Boko Haram insurgency; The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, has reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to securing the Lake Chad region from terrorism, particularly the activities of Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents that have brought destruction to Borno State.
While addressing troops on Saturday at the Baga Naval Base, Ogalla urged personnel to maintain momentum in ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the Lake Chad area. He stressed, “Remain resolute and gallant in the fight against the insurgents. The Federal Government is allocating more resources to end the 16-year Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East.
He further instructed the troops to intensify their operations by targeting terrorist hideouts along Lake Chad’s shores, underlining the importance of strong cooperation between the Nigerian Navy and Army. “Flushing out the terrorists from the Lake Chad region will guarantee the safety of the waterways for everyone, including fishermen and farmers,” Ogalla emphasized.

Vice Admiral Ogalla also highlighted the strategic significance of the Baga Naval Base in the anti-insurgency campaign, pointing out its vital role in protecting the Lake Chad waters for fishing, transportation, and general regional safety. He issued a stern warning to insurgents, discouraging any further attacks on the base, citing their recent major defeat.
