Rivers State Hit by Deadly Gun Attack .
Rivers State witnessed another tragic night on Monday, June 23, 2025, when suspected cultists struck the Ahoada East Local Council. Two security personnel—a police officer and a vigilante—were killed in the attack near the council secretariat.
Rivers State Council Targeted in Assault
According to reports, the gunmen arrived on motorbikes and tried to breach the council premises. Security operatives returned fire, leading to chaos between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Tragically, two lives were lost during the gun battle.
Fear Grips Rivers State Community
Emeni Ibe, leader of the Orashi National Congress, described the Rivers community as tense and fearful after the attack. Businesses quickly shut down, and residents fled. Ibe urged local youths to lay down their arms and pleaded for peace and support from authorities.

Cult Leaders Behind Rivers State Killings
SP Grace Iringe-Koko of the Rivers Police Command identified the attackers as members of the Iceland cult, led by Umegbewe Kingsley a.k.a. ‘Gutam’ and one Opaka. They stormed the OSPAC office next to the secretariat and opened fire on operatives.

Two Security Agents Killed in Rivers State
OSPAC member Ngozi Ipah and Police Corporal Francis Friday, both stationed in Rivers Ahoada East, were critically injured. They were taken to Ahoada General Hospital but confirmed dead upon arrival. Their remains have been deposited for autopsy.
Police Promise Swift Justice
Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, visited the Rivers crime scene and ordered the deployment of tactical teams. He assured the public that no effort will be spared in capturing the suspects and restoring order to the area.
