Los Angeles, USA —After nearly three decades of marriage, Tomeka Thiam, wife of popular Senegalese-American singer Akon, has officially filed for divorce, marking the end of one of entertainment’s longest celebrity unions.
According to court documents obtained by People and Billboard, the filing was made in early September 2025, just days before the couple’s 29th wedding anniversary. In her petition, Tomeka cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the separation.
The documents reveal that Tomeka is seeking joint legal custody of their 17-year-old daughter, Journey, while requesting primary physical custody for herself. She is also asking for spousal support and has asked the court to deny any financial support requests from Akon.VIDEO: Ghana’s Albino King Tries to Stop the Rain, What Happened Next Will Shock You
Shortly after the news of the divorce broke, social media platforms were flooded with claims that Tomeka Thiam had demanded €100 million as compensation. Some viral posts also alleged that the court found only $10,000 in Akon’s account, suggesting that the singer had transferred most of his wealth into his mother’s account.
