OGUN STATE, NIGERIA — A married couple has been arrested after their seven-year-old daughter was found tied inside a sack by the roadside with one of her fingers severed. The child was rescued alive and taken to hospital, while the suspects were handed over to the police for investigation.
Residents of the Asabala area along Papalanto–Sogamu Road noticed a white sack by the roadside and heard unusual noises. On opening the sack they found a little girl alive but injured. They immediately alerted the police, who rushed the child to a nearby hospital for treatment. Medical checks confirmed that one finger on the child’s right hand had been cut off.
Police later arrested the couple identified as Nasiru Adeyemo and his wife Idayat Adeyemo. Authorities say the pair were detained after questions from neighbours and information from the public linked them to the case. The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the arrest and transferred the case to its Anti-Kidnapping Section for further investigation and prosecution. The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the rescue followed a distress call from passersby who noticed the sack and reported it to the police. Investigators are working to establish the exact sequence of events, motive and whether others were involved.
At the time of rescue, the child was alive but injured. She was taken to hospital where doctors treated her wound. Officials have said she is receiving medical and welfare support while the police complete their inquiries. The suspects are expected to face charges related to attempted murder/serious bodily harm, child abuse and offences connected with ritual practice if evidence supports those counts.
