BREAKING: Nigerian Army Arrests 17, Seizes 45,000 Litres of Stolen Fuel in Niger Delta Crackdown

The Nigerian Army has intensified its clampdown on oil theft, arresting 17 suspects and confiscating over 45,000 litres of stolen petroleum products during operations across the Niger Delta.

The Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 6 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, confirmed the development in a statement released on Sunday.

In Rivers State, troops intercepted a Toyota 4Runner SUV around Okarki community in Ahoada West Local Government Area. The vehicle was loaded with more than 1,600 litres of suspected stolen diesel, but the driver escaped. Soldiers also recovered 23 sacks of refined products in the same LGA, while in Degema, a wooden boat transporting petroleum products was seized.

At Obiafor in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, troops uncovered a vandalised pipeline and retrieved stolen condensate. In Delta State, soldiers stormed an illegal storage facility at Ogwu community, Warri South Local Government Area. A tanker truck filled with stolen diesel, along with a storage site holding over 20,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), was discovered. Two empty tanks and another 20,000-litre capacity truck with registration number BEN 223 ZW, loaded with over 10,000 litres of illegally refined AGO, were also impounded.

In Bayelsa State, troops destroyed illegal refining sites and dugout pits in Biseni, Yenagoa Local Government Area. Another operation in Okordia led to the interception of a Toyota Camry (registration number ASB 71 BG) carrying more than 600 litres of AGO.

Similarly, in Akwa Ibom State, troops intensified patrols along known oil theft routes, disrupting smuggling networks and limiting the movement of vandals.join our telegram channel for more updates 

The Nigerian Army stressed that the ongoing operations are aimed at safeguarding vital national assets, combating economic sabotage, and protecting the environment from further degradation.
