Police Link Rivers LGA Attack to Council CSO and Chief of Staff

Police Link Rivers LGA Attack to CSO and Chief of Staff ; The Rivers State Police Command has linked the attack on Ahoada East LGA’s Sole Administrator to two senior council officials — the Chief Security Officer (CSO), Hector Ekakita, and the Chief of Staff (COS). According to the police, the duo orchestrated the violent assault on Goodluck Iheamnacho, the administrator, on Friday.

Police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated on Sunday that Ekakita and the COS led over 30 hoodlums to the council secretariat. There, the attackers allegedly beat up Iheamnacho, took his personal items, and forced him to sign a resignation letter under duress.

According to the statement, Iheamnacho sustained injuries and is now receiving medical care. The attackers also stole his phones, took away key documents from his office, and created a scene of chaos. Police noted that official and personal files were carted away.

Reacting swiftly, Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, visited the site with other security heads. He ordered Ekakita, the COS, and all implicated individuals to report to the Police Headquarters for interrogation.

The Commissioner warned that ignoring the summons would lead to “severe consequences.” He also emphasized the command’s determination to restore peace and maintain law and order across the state.

The incident stirred more tension when a resignation letter allegedly signed by Iheamnacho surfaced online, giving the impression that he stepped down voluntarily. However, Iheamnacho denied this, stating the letter was signed under force during the attack.

This event occurs amidst broader political unrest in Rivers State. All 23 local councils are under emergency rule and being run by appointed Sole Administrators, most of whom reportedly support FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
