Shettima Snubs Ganduje Publicly Amidst 2027 Vice President Ticket Tensions

Politics | Shettima Snubs Ganduje Amid 2027 VP Ticket Speculations

Vice President Kashim Shettima sparked political tension over the weekend after publicly snubbing APC Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje at a reception held in honour of Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno.

According to a video published by The Whistler, Shettima was seen exchanging handshakes with Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Governor Eno. However, he deliberately skipped Ganduje—who stood next in line—and moved on to greet other dignitaries behind him. The public snub left many at the event visibly shocked.

This gesture has intensified speculation over the 2027 vice president ticket, as political rumblings suggest Shettima’s position on the joint ticket with President Bola Tinubu is increasingly uncertain.

The incident came on the heels of a chaotic APC North East Stakeholders Consultative Meeting held in Gombe earlier in the week. There, the APC formally endorsed President Tinubu for re-election in 2027—but Vice President Shettima’s name was notably absent from the announcement.

Tensions escalated when Comrade Mustapha Salihu, the APC’s National Vice Chairman (North East), failed to mention Shettima while endorsing Tinubu. The omission provoked angry chants of “Shettima! Shettima!!” from delegates, showing the widespread discontent among party loyalists.

The situation worsened when a Shettima supporter stormed the stage and physically confronted Salihu, triggering a violent scene inside the International Conference Centre, Gombe. Chairs were thrown, and security personnel struggled to contain the chaos.

The disorder, which lasted over 20 minutes, forced several high-ranking APC officials—including governors, ministers, and lawmakers—to exit the venue abruptly.
