According to eyewitnesses, the woman, later identified as Mrs. Grace Okoro, was spotted by local vigilante members at the community cemetery around 12:45 a.m. Initially, they thought she was mourning a loved one, but suspicions grew when they noticed her digging and using a torchlight to search through a grave.
One of the vigilante officers, Mr. Chukwudi Eze, explained how they approached the scene quietly and were horrified to find Mrs. Okoro with a sharp knife and a black nylon bag, already containing what looked like human fingers and bones.
“We couldn’t believe what we saw. She was bent over the grave cutting something from the corpse. When we confronted her, she tried to run but we caught her immediately,” Eze said.
