Wizkid’s Made in Lagos Surpasses 900,000 U.S. Sales, Becomes Top-Selling African Album

Wizkid has set another remarkable record with his 2020 album Made in Lagos, as it has officially surpassed 900,000 units sold in the United States. This achievement marks the first time any of Wizkid’s projects — or any African album — has reached such a milestone in U.S. music history.

According to Chart Data on September 22, 2025, the success of Made in Lagos further solidifies Wizkid’s global impact and the rising influence of Afrobeats on the international stage.

The album, released under Starboy Entertainment and RCA Records, is a fusion of Afrobeats, R&B, and dancehall. It features several hit singles, most notably Essence featuring Tems, which peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. Essence not only became a cultural anthem but also earned a 5x Platinum certification, helping propel the album’s commercial dominance.

With over 1.35 billion premium audio streams in the United States alone, streaming has played a major role in driving the album’s record-breaking sales. In comparison, Wizkid’s milestone puts him ahead of other Afrobeats heavyweights in U.S. sales. Burna Boy’s African Giant stands at 400,000 units sold, while Davido’s Timeless has moved about 300,000 units. Join our telegram channel for more crime updates
