Nyesom Wike Criticizes Peter Obi’s Political Ambitions During Abuja Church Service
They Say Peter Obi Will Be President, President Where?’ Nyesom Wike Drops Bombshell
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has openly dismissed the chances of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ever becoming Nigeria’s president.
Wike made this bold assertion during a Thanksgiving service on Sunday at St. James’ Anglican Church, Asokoro, Abuja. The event was organized to mark the completion of various projects commissioned by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In his address to the congregation, Nyesom Wike suggested that Obi’s influence within Nigeria’s political landscape has significantly declined. He attributed the remnants of Obi’s support base to mere emotional loyalty, rather than a genuine political connection or ideological alignment with the former Anambra State governor.
According to Wike, “They say Peter Obi will be President, President where? Out of emotion, most of you are just following someone you don’t know.”
The minister went on to criticize Obi’s tenure as governor, stating, “For eight years, Obi was a governor but he never conducted local government elections. Now he claims democracy isn’t working, yet it worked under his watch.

Nyesom Wike further alleged that Obi simultaneously held the position of governor and chairman of all local government councils in Anambra State, implying a contradiction in his current political stance. “That time has passed, he won’t have the opportunity again,” Wike concluded.

This firm statement from the FCT Minister comes just days after reports surfaced of Obi presenting a formal proposal advocating for a single four-year presidential tenure to Nigeria’s opposition coalition.
Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, confirmed this development on Tuesday, July 2nd. He revealed that Obi’s proposal had been submitted to a coalition involving notable opposition figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Senate President David Mark.
