The Yobe State Government has issued a stern warning to traders allocated shops in the newly built modern markets in Damaturu, Gashua, and Nguru, cautioning that unoccupied stalls risk being revoked and reassigned.
Governor Mai Mala Buni gave the warning on Tuesday in Damaturu during the distribution of grains to vulnerable households. He said the government invested heavily in constructing the modern markets to stimulate commerce, provide a more secure trading environment, and enhance the dignity of business operations in the state.
The governor expressed disappointment that many traders have refused to move into the facilities, citing concerns over high rent and the fear of losing customers due to the new locations.
“If traders from Kano and other neighbouring states had access to these facilities, they would be fully occupied, and it would be hard to find a single vacant shop,” Buni remarked.
He stressed that public resources must not be left to waste while many people are in need of trading opportunities.Access Bank Night Staff Caught on CCTV Having S*x at UNILAG Branch
“Our traders should understand that these modern markets were built to promote business in a clean, organised, and safe environment. Any shop owner who fails to take possession and commence operations immediately will have their allocation revoked and given to more committed traders,” the governor warned.
The state government maintained that the initiative is part of broader efforts to modernise commerce and uplift the standard of trading across Yobe.
