Dikko Radda Calls for Community Action as Majority of Bandits Are Identified as Residents
Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has disclosed that around 90 percent of the bandits troubling Katsina State are not strangers but residents living within the communities.
Speaking on Tuesday, Dikko Radda highlighted that insecurity remains one of the major obstacles hindering meaningful progress in the state. According to him, although governors are designated as security chiefs in their states, operational control largely remains with federal forces like the army and police.
To strengthen security measures, the state government launched a local security outfit made up of youths from communities worst affected by banditry.

These young men are familiar with the terrain and the people involved. Most of those responsible for the bandit attacks are from within our own areas. They are not outsiders. We know their families, their backgrounds, and they live amongst us,” Dikko Radda emphasized.

He underlined the critical role of local involvement in addressing the crisis. “This problem can’t be resolved without grassroots participation. That’s why we established this community-based security initiative — to gather local intelligence and lead efforts into the bandits’ hideouts.
The governor added that engaging locals is crucial in identifying informants and those providing logistical support to the bandits. Without breaking those local networks, lasting peace and security would remain difficult to achieve, Dikko Radda concluded.
