INEC Nigeria Introduces Online Voter Registration Platform

INEC Nigeria Rolls Out Online Voter Registration Portal for Flexible and Convenient CVR Process

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced the commencement of its online Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) portal, designed to enhance accessibility and convenience in the voter registration process.

According to the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Obo Effanga, who spoke during a media briefing in Uyo on Wednesday, the new initiative aims to simplify the voter registration process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Effanga explained that the online voter registration will commence on August 18, 2025, enabling eligible Nigerians to initiate their registration, correct existing information, or request transfers between polling units from the comfort of their homes. The physical capture of photographs and fingerprints will then follow at designated INEC Nigeria centres from August 25, 2025.

INEC has created a portal where citizens can begin the registration process online and only visit our offices for biometric capture,” Effanga stated.

He also cautioned against multiple registrations, emphasizing that any attempt to register more than once would invalidate the process. In cases of lost voter cards, individuals are advised to visit INEC Nigeria offices for reprinting rather than initiating a fresh registration.

Effanga further noted that those seeking to correct personal details such as name spellings or addresses or transfer from one polling unit to another can easily complete these updates online via the new platform.

From August 18, people with internet access can update their information, transfer polling units, or start new registrations online. Those without access can visit INEC Nigeria offices from August 25,” he added.

The rollout of this online CVR platform reaffirms INEC’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve Nigeria’s electoral process, ensuring broader voter participation in the upcoming 2027 polls.
