Adeleke Gets Osun PDP Backing Amid Defection Talks

Osun PDP Leaders Reaffirm Confidence in Adeleke, Vow to Stand by Him

The political atmosphere in Osun State took a dramatic turn over the weekend as the leadership caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Governor Ademola Adeleke. The party leaders pledged their full support for any political move the governor decides to make — including rumors of a possible defection to another party.

At a strategic meeting held inside the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Osogbo, party stakeholders praised Adeleke’s performance since assuming office and expressed faith in his leadership. They also backed his ongoing consultations with key political figures about his next steps.

The well-attended gathering brought together heavyweights from different arms of the party and state government, such as the National Assembly and State Assembly caucuses, State Executive Council, Special Advisers’ Forum, Elders Caucus, and the Osun chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON).

In a communiqué released after the meeting, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, revealed that the party’s leadership resolved to remain solidly behind Adeleke, no matter what path he chooses politically. The statement also confirmed that Adeleke is still holding wide-ranging consultations before announcing any final decision.

Among those present were Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, Deputy Senate Minority Leader Senator Lere Oyewumi, Hon. Bamidele Salam, Hon. Clement Olohunwa, and Hon. Taofeek Abimbola Ajilesoro. Other notable attendees included South-West PDP Vice Chairman Engr. Kamorudeen Ajisafe, Osun PDP Chairman Hon. Sunday Bisi, Speaker of the Osun House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, and several respected party elders.

Also in attendance were former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Senator Oluwole Alabi, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade, Rt. Hon. Lasun Yusuf, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, Rev. Bunmi Jenyo, ALGON State Chairman Hon. Sarafadeen Awotunde, and other prominent figures.

This show of solidarity comes amid rising speculation about Governor Adeleke’s possible defection from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling that wherever he goes, Osun PDP leaders are prepared to follow.
