Earlier, President Tinubu announced Buhari’s death, which occurred in London around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. He immediately directed Kashim Shettima and Gbajabiamila to travel to the UK to accompany the late leader’s body back to Nigeria.

Buhari, who died at the age of 82, served as Nigeria’s civilian president from 2015 to 2023, and as military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985.

To honour him, President Tinubu ordered national flags flown at half-mast nationwide.

In line with Islamic burial rites, Buhari will be buried later today in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State.
