Kashim Shettima Arrives in London for Buhari’s Remains
Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in London to accompany the remains of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, back to the country. The visit follows a directive from President Bola Tinubu.
Shettima touched down in the United Kingdom on Monday morning, accompanied by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila. On arrival, they were received by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum.
The Vice President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Stanley Nkwocha, confirmed their arrival through an official statement issued on Monday.

Earlier, President Tinubu announced Buhari’s death, which occurred in London around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. He immediately directed Kashim Shettima and Gbajabiamila to travel to the UK to accompany the late leader’s body back to Nigeria.
Buhari, who died at the age of 82, served as Nigeria’s civilian president from 2015 to 2023, and as military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985.
To honour him, President Tinubu ordered national flags flown at half-mast nationwide.
In line with Islamic burial rites, Buhari will be buried later today in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State.
